Introduction:
The Employment Act 1955 (EA) covers the minimum terms and conditions of employment for employees. 

It is a basic human rights law for employer-employee relationships and must be known by all employers 

Although the act is primarily targeted at non-management employees, employers are required to follow this in drawing up the terms and conditions of employment for all levels of employees with certain exceptions.

It also provides some obligations and limitations from both employer and employee particularly in terms of work hours and OT and the administration of benefits. 

Objectives:
The purpose of the Employment Act 1955 and who are covered by it; and how to differentiate between the ‘contract of service’ and ‘contract for service’ 
The types and no. of days of benefits: sick leave, maternity leave, annual leave, rest days and public holidays  
Minimum Wages Act (latest order); and how to calculate overtime and retrenchment benefits 
Types of disciplinary action 
Rules under the Children and Young Persons (Employment) Act 1966; and Employment (part-timers) Rules 2010
